Trine Wejp-Olsen

Artist Statement

I have since childhood enjoyed stories, and never given up on them. This is how my work has quite a sense of narration, with a narrative similar to what one might find in the stories of the fairy tales and myths.

It is the mysterious layers and symbolic meaning in the details that I am attracted to. In my practice as an artist, my attempt is to capture “that other world”, a parallel world that I find myself often looking for in our busy-logic lives.

Visually, it is somewhat of a fairy tale world visited. Rabbits, red-haired girls with long braids, toads, wolves and foxes, tears produced in molds, tail-biting snakes, and 3-dimensional white lies, are who you might meet on your way.

It is the forces of life in a world of tragedy and farce, not unlike that of our modern society.

The narrative is open-ended, for the viewer to ponder over and to find his or hers own narrative in their own universe.
